      Fresh off a trio of rehab starts for Double-A Pensacola, Reds reliever Manny Parra was back in Cincinnati before moving on to continue his rehab assignment. Plans changed, though, when the Reds put fellow left-handed reliever Sean Marshall on the disabled list on Friday, and Parra received a call that he was to stay in Cincinnati.

      Reds reliever Sean Marshall was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Friday with a sprained left shoulder. The same shoulder put the 30-year-old lefty on the 15-day disabled list in April after pitching in just one game.

      Lawn tickets for the 2013 Midwest League All-Star Game on June 18th at Fifth Third Field will go on sale to the general public Thursday, May 30th. However, fans who "Like" the Dragons on Facebook will get exclusive access to a ticketing link one day earlier on Wednesday May 29th.

      The Dayton Dragons scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to overcome a 6-5 deficit, defeating the West Michigan Whitecaps 7-6 on Thursday night. The win was the Dragons sixth in their last seven games. They will try for their first series sweep of the 2013 season on Friday night after winning the first two games of the set.

      Jesse Winker belted a tie-breaking two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Dayton Dragons to a come-from-behind 6-4 victory over the West Michigan Whitecaps on Wednesday night. The win was the Dragons fifth in their last six games, three of which have been decided on Dragons late-inning home runs.

      An already-ailing Cardinals rotation endured another setback on Saturday, as John Gast was forced out of the game against the Dodgers in the second inning with left shoulder tightness.
    • Garcia has surgery, should be ready for 2014
      Hours after team physician Dr. George Paletta performed surgery on Jaime Garcia's left shoulder on Friday, Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said the organization is optimistic that Garcia will enjoy a full recovery by the start of the 2014 season.
    • Carpenter could face live hitters soon
      Right-hander Chris Carpenter threw an extended bullpen session at Busch Stadium on Thursday and responded well enough that the Cardinals are considering having him face hitters as early as Tuesday.       The Cubs lost their sixth in a row Saturday as they fell, 5-2, to the Reds in Cincy. Travis Wood, coming off a string of strong starts, allowed five runs in 5 2/3 innings.
    • Sveum: Rizzo can't let pitchers dictate his approach
      Manager Dale Sveum considered giving Anthony Rizzo a day off Saturday. The Cubs' first baseman entered the game in an 0-for-23 skid, but went 3-for-3 on the day, and may be coming out of his slump.
    • Sveum urges pitchers to better utilize scouting reports
      On Friday, Scott Feldman hung a curve to the Reds' Ryan Hanigan, a pitch he wishes he could get back, as Hanigan proceeded to hit a go-ahead three-run homer. Dale Sveum believes that these situations would occur less often if Cubs pitchers stuck to scouting reports.
    • Cubs, Feldman topped by Reds' five-run fourth
      Scott Feldman hit his first career home run, a two-run shot, but he also served up a pair of homers as the Reds posted a 7-4 victory Friday night over the Cubs. Cincinnati scored five runs in the fourth, sparked by Joey Votto's solo shot and Ryan Hanigan's three-run homer.
    • Following game plan helping Wood improve
      Last season, Travis Wood was 6-13 with a 4.27 ERA in 26 starts with the Cubs. This season, he's 4-2 with a 2.24 ERA. What's the difference? According to Dale Sveum, the lefty is improving because he is following the game plan.

      Four West Virginia Power pitchers combined to strike out 24 batters in a game on Thursday, the second-best total in South Atlantic League history.
