      The Mobile BayBears scored 11 unanswered runs and left no doubt as they wrapped up a first half division championship with an 11-1 clobbering of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on Monday night. The win secured Mobile's third consecutive trip to the postseason.

      Shaun Ellis shut down a red-hot Mobile BayBears lineup and the Pensacola Blue Wahoos scored all four of their runs in the fifth inning in a 4-0 shutout on Sunday evening at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium. The win snapped a three-game losing skid for the Wahoos and prevented Mobile from winning the first-half South Division title.

      Lansing's Dalton Pompey lined a base hit to center field to bring in Brandon Drury from third base with the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning as the East Division All-Stars defeated the West Division All-Stars 6-5 on Tuesday night. A crowd of 8,746 attended the game at Fifth Third Field in Dayton.

    • Dragons Post Shutout Win to Close First Half
      Dayton starting pitcher Ismael Guillon and three relievers combined on a five-hit shutout as the Dragons defeated the South Bend Silver Hawks 2-0 on Sunday afternoon. The Dragons won two-out-of-three in the series against the first half East Division champion Silver Hawks. The series concluded the first half of the Midwest League's split-season.

      The Houston Astrodome, dubbed the "Eighth Wonder of the World" when it opened in 1965, has been listed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as one of this year's 11 most endangered places.

      Outfielder Fernando Martinez, who appeared in 52 games for the Astros over the past two seasons, was sent to the Yankees in a trade on Tuesday. The Astros acquired right-handed pitcher Charles Basford, who will report to rookie-league Tri-City.

      Astros starter Bud Norris is appealing a base hit ruling from the White Sox four-run sixth inning, he said Tuesday. He hopes the play will be ruled an error, instead.

      Outfielder Justin Maxwell made his return to the Astros Tuesday night, but he's got a new home after missing eight weeks with a fractured left hand.

      The Astros and Mark Appel, the No. 1 overall pick in this year's First-Year Player Draft, have reached agreement on a contract, which the team said will be signed Wednesday afternoon. A news conference will be held at Minute Maid Park at 3 p.m. CT.

      Pirates manger Clint Hurdle had a feeling Reds starter Mat Latos was due for a loss. A dominant performance from Charlie Morton and a big first inning from the Pirates' offense turned Hurdle's feeling into reality, as Pittsburgh beat Cincinnati, 4-0, on Tuesday at Great American Ball Park.
    • Walker questions intent of Chapman's chin music
      In the ninth inning of Monday's 4-1 loss to the Reds, Neil Walker led off against Cincinnati closer Aroldis Chapman. With the count even at two balls and two strikes, Chapman buzzed a 100-mph fastball right past the chin of Walker, who barely evaded it and fell to his back.
    • Gomez's second rehab start postponed due to rain
      Injured right-hander Jeanmar Gomez was expected to make his second rehab start Tuesday with Triple-A Indianapolis as he recovers from a right forearm strain and inflammation, but rain postponed the game.
    • McGuire signs, capping busy weeks for high schooler
      The Pirates announced they signed Reese McGuire, one of their two first-round selections in the Draft who was previously committed to play at the University of San Diego. The Kentwood (Wash.) High School catcher signed for $2.369 million, about $200,000 below the slot value for the 14th pick.
